Combat Mission Red Thunder Battle Pack 1 - Lesson 1 SPW Scouts - AAR

Battle Pack 1 for Combat Mission Red Thunder was released yesterday. It is always great to see new official content for Combat Mission and this follows a tradition of high quality and value.

Just a clarification, you will require a copy of Combat Mission Red Thunder (the base game) and the Fire and Ruble DLC, to enjoy this battle pack. The Battle Pack 1's main area of operation is eastern Poland (summer 1944).

It is an old tradition for me to start with the smallest scenario when I get new Combat Mission content, so I loaded Lesson 1 (of a series of 3) about SPW squad tactics. These scenario/lessons are inspired in a period document "Combat Instruction for the Panzer Grenadier" (Maj. von Wehren) and canned into this pieces of art scenarios that George MC creates.

A mechanized Panzer Grenadier's platoon is on point and acting as an advance guard for a bigger formation. It must secure a route and a bridge, enemy infantry is expected to be defending the access to the bridge.

So, this is what happened when I played this scenario. Spoilers warning.

Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm, Missions and Campaigns Creation

From On Target Simulations and Slitherine/Matrix Games, this grand tactical wargame is set to be released on 17NOV2022. Today, a new developer's blog has been published and it features the scenario creation process.

Probably nothing is more telling from a wargame than the scenario creation parameters accessible to the end user. It almost provides an x-ray image of what to expect from the gameplay.

Command Modern Operations - All of Gorbachev's MiGs

A Ship's a Fool to Fight a Fort, Nelson allegedly said. And that's exactly how it feels in this CMO scenario.

The game: Command Modern Operations

The scenario: North Pacific Shootout

Command Modern Operations - Message from SOSUS: Be Quiet or Get Out of the Way

There is a reason why a version of Command is being used by professional wargamers at many armed forces around the world. This powerful, far-reaching wargame/simulation is versatile, educational and (nerdly) entertaining.

Ready or Not - New AI Tricks

I don't know if you are familiar with Ready or Not, a tactical first-person shooter in which you are part of  SWAT police units. Remember SWAT 4? That type of shooter!

In beta stage, it's making progress at a steady pace. Clearly inspired on SWAT 4, it is taking all my attention from the all time classic (which I used to play up to last month). Today, I would like to bring your attention to a big AI upgrade that is really very impressive.

NEBULOUS: Fleet Command - The Kill Chain

NEBULOUS: Fleet Command is an intriguing game. With a spirited adherence to plausible physics, weapons mounts and sensors, this tactical space game is unique. And if you are a fan of Command Modern Operations, it may be worth to check.

The span of options and platforms is enormous, even at this early stage of development. So I decided to take it easy and start by the basics with a very nimble command. In this case, I have chosen two Raines class frigates armed with an MK2 cannon and SGM-206 cruise, active radar missiles each. Other amenities include a search radar, a targeting radar and a Mk90 Aurora point defense system.

Strategic Command American Civil War - A Short Preview

Strategic Command (Fury Software/Matrix Slitherine Games) is now a mature and well established series of military strategy games. The clever design of the Strategic Command engine allowed games with great playability with the level of complexity needed for global military strategy and warfare. Strategic Command will never be a game about how many kilos of lard and sausage you have in an Army's field kitchen or how many bullets you spent in the last battle. Strategic Command games are more about managing global resources, with a sharp focus on the ones relevant to military campaigning. There are abstractions in Strategic Command, of course, but so far they have melt seamlessly into the overall layout of their games.

Enter American Civil War, the newest offering to be released tomorrow by Matrix/Slitherine Games. Following the same tradition as the previous games, military strategy but now entirely focused in the American Civil War.

Gunner, HEAT, PC! - Realism and Gameplay, the Ultimate Balancing Act

Gunner, HEAT, PC! has hit the internets with another demo via Steam

This demo catches me in the middle of an introspection of what I want in my simulations and what is out there.
