Some 13 years ago, I started posting a tactics primer series for the Black Shark flight sim. This series relied heavily in Richard Sheffield's Gunship Academy. This book was originally intended as a sort of "strategy guide" for the wildly successful Gunship by MicroProse.

I once started a redux/remix/repost of that series, with the help of DCS's AH-64D Apache. The subsequent patches/fixes (?!) of the DCS module made me drift away from the module because  it became very tricky to fly. The latest patch has included some major changes in the flight/stability systems that appear to be pointing in the right direction, so I think it is time to resume with the series.

As I write these lines, the road to Copenhagen lies open and the Swedish invader is poised to cut deep into our Danish homeland without even bothering about beach-heads.

The landing at Humlebæk is one of those Charles XII's war stories that may appear minor in his military career yet still is a remarkable event. In the recently released The Great Northern War from Wargame Design Studio, the solo player is encouraged to play as an outnumbered Danish battle group of peasants, a couple of squadrons of cavalry and the support from a few guns.

Broken Arrow Demo Out Tomorrow

Broken Arrow is a large-scale real-time modern warfare tactics game. It will combine the complexity of a joint-forces wargame with the typical real-time tactics action-packed gameplay. The game's demo will be released tomorrow for all to enjoy.

Command Modern Operations - Handbrake!

 The last "Tiny" update to Command has been massive.

I'm currently working through the changes, trying to unlearn certain habits I had before. The part where you can have ATOs and operations planning has me very intrigued, but one thing at a time.

So to start with a small setup, I gave it a try with an scenario from the new Falklands DLC. This scenario is named Handbrake and simulates the 04MAY1982 Exocet strike by two Argentine Navy Super Étendards.

Combat Mission Red Thunder Battle Pack 1 - Lesson 1 SPW Scouts - AAR

Battle Pack 1 for Combat Mission Red Thunder was released yesterday. It is always great to see new official content for Combat Mission and this follows a tradition of high quality and value.

Just a clarification, you will require a copy of Combat Mission Red Thunder (the base game) and the Fire and Ruble DLC, to enjoy this battle pack. The Battle Pack 1's main area of operation is eastern Poland (summer 1944).

It is an old tradition for me to start with the smallest scenario when I get new Combat Mission content, so I loaded Lesson 1 (of a series of 3) about SPW squad tactics. These scenario/lessons are inspired in a period document "Combat Instruction for the Panzer Grenadier" (Maj. von Wehren) and canned into this pieces of art scenarios that George MC creates.

A mechanized Panzer Grenadier's platoon is on point and acting as an advance guard for a bigger formation. It must secure a route and a bridge, enemy infantry is expected to be defending the access to the bridge.
