Strategic Command WWII: World at War - Preview

Fury Software and Matrix/Slitherine Games give you ... World War II. All of it!

Huber Cater's masterpiece of game design has been extended to cover the entire world at war. Not only the map is bigger, but some features have been added compared to the former War in Europe.

Combat Mission Shock Force 2 is Released

Battlefront's main web page may not say so, but Combat Mission Shock Force 2 is reporting for duty.

One of the old scenarios (Circle the Wagons) has bee re-written and "RPG City" continues to be a handsome challenge for the virtual Marines.

Battles of North Africa 1941 - Fait Accompli

I'm slowly savoring my way through the latest release from John Tiller Software. In this scenario, the 11th Indian Brigade, supported by the 7th Royal Tank Regiment pinches the defenses of the The Raggruppamento Maletti. This is the Nibeiwa scenario. Spoilers alert!

The northern pinch. The 7th RTR has found the Italian tank crews with their pants down and after demolishing no less than 25 hulls they are poised to continue their advance via Bir Masri. Also, see the Cameron Hihglanders (2nd Battalion) taking advantage of Sid Ka'Bish's lower terrain in their approach towards the objective, Nibeiwa Camp.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Bodenplatte -Republic P-47 Thunderbolt's .50 Cal Bonanza

Yeah, the early release of the P-47D triggered my purchase of yet another early access DLC. Oh, boy.

The mere mention of multiple .50 cals mounted (6 in these flights), was enough to pay the admission price for this strafing fanboy.

Strategic Command WWII: World at War - Releases 06DEC18

One year after the release of the WWII in Europe, we now know we are close to the release of the World at War. While I write a preview of the game, let me share a few preliminary impressions.

Island hopping in the PTO.  It's remarkable how easy and effective the design of amphibious operations works in World at War. The naval warfare aspect is still a bit intriguing: effective, but with some  idiosyncrasies that leave a sense of want for a few more details.

Combat Mission Shock Force 2 (Demo) - Wilcox Scenario -Video AAR- Episodes 1 and 2

I played this Combat Mission Shock Force 2 (Demo) scenario against my friend Olaf. This is a though scenario for both sides. The Syrians, short on mobility but with plenty of places to hide their RPGs, AT-14s and just 3 BMPs. In Olaf hands, quite lethal.

The US Army with a company team and all the tracked armor you can ask for, but short on dismounts to take on a semi-built area with interlocking firing positions.

Graviteam Tactics: Operation Moduler - Pantserskool I

There is one law of nature, and one iron law that the Boer never forgets, that the answer to superior forces is greater mobility.
Thomas Pakenham, The Boer War

The South African Defense Forces have been serving its staple dish of high mobility-high tempo operations with a side of maneuver warfare since a long time ago.

CMANO, Kuril Sunrise - The "Gotcha!" Becoming a "Got Me!"

I'm playing the Kuril Sunrise DLC as the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force/Japan Air Self-Defense Force.

You can read the detailed briefing a few lines below. But to make a long story short my mission is to stop a Russian convoy with our meager forces consisting of diesel submarines, a nimble division of destroyers and assorted air assets which consist of F-15Js, F4s and just three P-3 Orions. The Russians will cover the move of the convoy with one frigate, a bunch of older corvettes and an undetermined number of nuclear submarines.

Steel Fury Kharkov 1942 - Mission Editor - Mission Accomplished

I knew that Steel Fury had an editor and I tried it back in the year I got the game. But it was not straightforward, not too documented and tended to crash on me.

Figure 1 - Of my own creation, Soviet attack against a German delaying detachment.
