An Errand to the Brick and Mortar Computer Store

The last wargame with hexes and turns, complex rules and of interest for just the war-nerds I got from a computer mega store was Korsun Pocket (Matrix Games). It was from the now defunct CompUSA. Today, an errand to the Microcenter computer store (Rockville, MD USA), which is in the same building where CompUSA was, ended up with me playing a Squad Battles (HPS Simulations) scenario a couple of hours later.

I was stunned when I found a copy of Squad Battles Red Victory in the military strategy games section of Microcenter. So was the salesman when I asked if they had more of the likes and he saw the price I was willing to pay for such an ugly jewel box. Yeah, I know dude, don't ask ... Just check your inventory. They had more listed, but finding them was an issue.

So I walked away with my bounty, for which I payed some 40 bucks. Had to return a few minutes later, though. I forgot to get that printer my wife needed. :)

Cheers,

wow,an HPS title at a brick and mortar...I would have fainted. Wonder how that happened...maybe the buyer is a grog, or maybe HPS is getting more aggressive with marketing? I know Rockville and Germantown pretty well, I lived in Gaithersburg for a couple years :)

I am a longtime follower of this blog and like others it has inspired to start my own. Great choice of games and well presented.

Heres the link to mine if anyone is interested

There is a hobby store I frequent which sells a lot of HPS games. In fact, that is where I was introduced to HPS-Tiller games.

Nice find JC. That is supposed to be one of the best in the series.

I saw today that Red Victory was released as a downloadable title by HPS, along with SQB: Soviet-Afghan War, France '14, Bulge '44, and Korsun Pocket '44.
