Combat Mission Shock Force 2 Marines Module - Across the Canal V2.0

Back in 2012, I did put together an scenario for the Marines Module. Recently, a fellow gamer was kind enough to open it in Combat Mission Shock Force 2 and play it (this is a link to his video). I thought there were some interesting war gaming nuggets in the scenario so I re-edited for the new version of the engine.

You have just been ambushed and a counter-ambush operation is due immediately. Once the most immediate threats have been neutralized, you will secure the main canal crossing. Two smaller objectives, "northern approach" and "irrigation ditch crossing" are to be occupied and are provided as a guide for your tactical plan.

Birds eye view of the terrain.

Cooperation between the dismounts and the AAVs is encouraged.

The new version has some changes in the terrain, like the water ditches near the canal.

The technical university building overlooks the ambush site but it is too far away for enemy regular small arms fire.

I can't recall where I got that map from, but it looks cool.
The objective for your platoon is to secure the canal crossing and the northern approach to it. This means ensuring that no enemy fires can be delivered into the cannal crossing. Make sure to clear buildings overlooking both objectives.

The rest of the battalion and your company is south of the main canal you just crossed, heavily engaged in a urban fight. No air or heavy artillery support is available. Your US Marines platoon has just crossed the main canal in four AAV-7s and has been ambushed by enemy forces located west of the main road. You have 3 x 60 mm mortar tubes at your disposal.

During most of the day, a mix of regular and irregular enemy forces have engaged our forces with small arms, heavy machine guns, RPGs and mortars. The enemy is expected to continue its pressure in order to contain our advance towards the north.

The battalion's commander wants a secure crossing in order to establish a tactical assembly area and to refit/regroup the battalion before continue our offensive operations north of our current position.

Standoff near the water plant.
This scenario is loosely inspired in the courageous fight that Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines endured in the Saddam Canal (Nasiriyah) on 23Mar03 (Iraq War). For more details please check the following two books: "Ambush Alley" by Tim Pritchard and "Marines in the Garden of Eden" by Richard Lowry.

You can grab a copy of this scenario at The Scenario Depot III:

Cheers,
