Combat Mission Fortress Italy - The Fortified Backyard of Gela - Scenario Available
In case you are interested, the scenario that was the subject of my previous Combat Mission AAR is available at the Battlefront's file repository. Sorry for spoiling it with an AAR. :(
I am on a serious gaming fence here: I have played the CMSF demo with the additional module representation, and I have played the CMFI demo as well. Both are great games, but I have seen enough to see that there are some serious improvements implemented with the newer CMFI.
For about $60 US, I could get either CMSF plus all of the additional modules, or just get the base game of CMFI. While I love the modern era represented in CMSF (I am quite attached to ArmA), there is no denying that CMFI is a much better looking game with some serious coding tweaks.
Well - aside from the obvious answer - get both ! I would say to go with the peroid you like best. Whilst there are differences I still play CMSF on a regular basis so nothing in the improvements for CMFI puts me off playing the other game. The fact is the CM games are of such quality that they still shine on their own. With all the modules that you can buy for CMSF it is also a huge amount of content for your money.
Also, if you are willing to wait, Shock Force 2 is on it's way. I don't think a release date has been given yet, but it should be at most 7-8 months away.

Not sure which route I am going to go…
I see you have a sweet tooth for modern combat ... So I would recommend Shock Force.
ReplyDeleteYou are right with the improvements, they are there. But, bad player as I am, I never blamed a defeat on an interface or coding issue. :)
I will let the others readers chime in.
Cheers,

ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to Shock Force 2. I just hope that its not the same game engine with some boot polish added.
ReplyDeleteThe engine is 10 years old and its showing its age.
I guess it's time to bite the bullet and buy CMFI...
