AGEOD's Civil War II Looks Great, Plays Even Better

The new Civil War II (AGEOD, published by Matrix/Slitherine Games) is near release. I've got access to a preview version of the game and I am sharing some screenshots and quick notes about it. A more detailed preview will be following soon.

For those of you that don't know about AGEOD games, these are war games featuring conflicts at the strategic and operational levels. The Civil War II game is about the American Civil War. Turns simulate 15 days of the war and are resolved simultaneously (WEGO). There is also some other aspects of the conflict which are included in the game: building units, recruiting, developing industry, etc. But this not an empire-building game but rather a very complete war game about strategic and operational warfare.

The preview version includes a fair amount of scenarios playable from both sides. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.

The new interface looks and works very nice. Compared to the previous version of the game, it is less cluttered. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
The units' stats can be accessed with less clicks than before. In this screen, a support unit.
One of the accomplishments of AGEOD's Civil War games is the portrayal of command and how it influenced the outcome of the war. In this screen, I'm navigating through the unit's stats. But actually what I need is more and better generals. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
Another view of a Confederate unit. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
A new feature: regional decisions. In this case, partisans ... Green map areas are regions for which the regional decision is applicable. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
Also new in Civil War II is an expansive map. I have no idea how anything done in these remote areas of the country could affect the main show, but I suppose it is worth exploring. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
Cavalry is the mid west ... I also saw indian tribes nearby. Is the new AGEOD engine ready for pre and post-Civil War conflict too?  Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
Besides being fixed, "the Beast" is not going anywhere and will be packing and sailing back to Washington ASAP. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
Another new feature: a (tactical) battle planner. Looks very intriguing and quite an excellent addition to the series. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
This is a battle that I fought as the Union commander. Too close to Washington DC to suffer a defeat! But Beauregard's Army was quite a mess too and didn't push for the capital. Right click and open on a new tab or window for a high resolution view.
Cheers,

Wow.

Looking forward to your preview - especially on details about how that tactical planning thing works. How can it anticipate that a battle is going to happen?

The battle is already beginning when the tactical planner comes up.
