Great visuals, but the limitations of the demo may be concealing what the actual gameplay would be like.
The so-called "Empire" engine, developed by Ubisoft Mainz is presented in this promotional video.
Even with the demo looking so good and despite the time limit of one hour per session, the economy feels a bit off, the islands are still small and cartoonish. Fanboys are already coming in defense of the economy model, saying the current demo implementation has been "balanced" by the developers for the time limit of the demo (?). The islands, as in Anno 1800, look like a tribute to Civilization VII. Nothing wrong with Civilization VII's islands (they managed to ruin that one with other features anyway) given its scale and scope, but for these type of games has been always a turn-off for me.
The full game releases on November 13th and unless I see something earth island-shattering feature coming to Pax Romana, it's going to be a pass for me.
Cheers,
